On February 26th, 2010 at the 16th Annual Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Ruedi was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for being an enterprising leader, whose contribution to the development of economic ventures in Niagara has spanned over several decades. The recipient of this award is induced into the Niagara Enterprise Hall of Fame, along with the Historical Hall of Fame inductees. Ruedi's colleagues, friends and family came to congratulate on his achievement. Upon accepting this prestigious award Ruedi gave an inspiring speech, he called it A RACE THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP. Here is what he said.
" I call it “my race thru entrepreneurship” because I truly have enjoyed the ride. The last 30 years of my life as an entrepreneur literally flew by.
When Martin Luther King said “I have a dream”, I raced to the front row of the starting line, looking at the green flag.
Like the Beatles song says, “All you need is love” to have the passion and the strength to keep up with the best racers in the field.
Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler - “You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, know when to run”- gave me some of the strategies required to go the distance and confront the risks, obstacles, missteps, battles, pains, and plain bad luck on the way to fortune and success.
Piloting my helicopter, I was with the right people at the right time in the right place, to have been able to have saved a human life. Like the driver who overtakes the last competitor in the race, I consider myself very fortunate I can truly appreciate Hero by Mariah Carey.
The teamwork involved in the rescue represented entrepreneurship at its best. “And now the end is near”, as Frank Sinatra said in My Way. I’m arriving at the finish line, looking at the checkered flag; waiving and tasting that sweet flavor of success."
